Vision, Culture & Communication

We anchor in why Black Girl Magic Day exists and how we show up for girls, families, and each other. This is the heart of the work — everything else is structure.

The BGMD way

Culture is how we behave when no one is watching. It’s how girls, parents, partners, and teammates experience Black Girl Magic Day in real life.

  • We speak about girls as brilliant, capable, and creative — never as problems to fix.
  • We are on time and prepared. Magic is planned, not last-minute chaos.
  • We protect joy and psychological safety in every space we host.
  • We own our mistakes, repair quickly, and learn out loud.
  • We treat every family with dignity, regardless of zip code or background.

How we communicate

Whether we’re emailing a sponsor or sending a message in Teams, we keep our communication clear, respectful, and aligned with our vision.

  • Use warm, professional language — we represent BGMD every time we hit “send.”
  • Assume good intent, but never ignore harmful behavior or language.
  • Keep families’ information private and speak about them with respect.
  • Use internal channels (Teams) for questions, not text threads that can’t be tracked.
  • If something feels off or unsafe, speak up to your department lead or Operations.
The goal of this screen is simple: when someone says “Black Girl Magic Day,” you should know exactly what kind of experience we are promising — and how your daily choices help keep that promise.

Where we’re headed

Black Girl Magic Day — Vision Our vision is a world where girls of color grow up knowing they belong everywhere — not just where they were born. This is the anchor. Everything else we build is in service to this.

What this actually means

In practice, this looks like Black girls and girls of color seeing themselves centered in programs, stories, leadership, and opportunities — not as an afterthought or a one-day theme.

  • Spaces where their ideas, voices, and identities are taken seriously.
  • Programs that build confidence, skills, and networks — not just “activities.”
  • Events and experiences that feel joyful, safe, and deeply affirming.
  • Adults who model respect, consistency, and real follow-through.
